What moves the figure is the material you pick, whether existing paving has to come up first, how much cutting the shape needs and whether a barrow can reach the area. Crazy paving and large format porcelain are not the same job, so we price the job rather than quote a rate.

On anything that has to stay flat, yes, and the maths is not close. Wet laying costs more on the day because it is slower and uses more material under the surface. What you buy is a surface that behaves as one piece, so ground movement lifts the whole thing slightly instead of stepping one paver against the next. The cheaper method is why most of the failed paving we lift was laid at all.

Paving inside your own boundary, a backyard, a pool surround or an alfresco, normally needs nothing. Anything on the verge or a new crossover to the road does, and the rules differ by local government. A heritage or character overlay can also have something to say about materials visible from the street. We will flag it if we see it, and confirming it with your council is the owner's call.

There is no single answer, because the ground changes across the metro. On coastal sand and near salt air, porcelain and dense natural stone hold up best. On reactive clay inland the material matters far less than the base and the falls under it. The honest version is that Perth punishes bad bases much harder than it punishes the wrong paver.

Autumn and spring are the easiest. Mortar in the middle of a Perth summer goes off faster than anybody wants, so summer work starts early and stops when the heat arrives. Winter is fine between fronts, but a wet week can stop a job for days because a saturated base cannot be compacted properly. None of it is a reason to wait if the paving has already failed.

A quote comes back the same or next day once we have a photo and a rough size. From accepting it, a straightforward surround or alfresco is usually two to four days on site, a driveway three to five, and a lift and relay adds a day for the demolition and cart away. Wet laid paving then wants a few days before heavy traffic goes over it.
