One method, done properly
We're a two-man paving crew working across Perth, and we lay every job wet on a full bed of mortar. That one decision is most of what there is to know about us, because everything else in the way we work follows from it.
A two-man crew
The person who comes out and quotes your job is the person who lays it. We don't subcontract and we don't send someone else.
Wet lay, every time
Full mortar bed under the whole underside of every paver, over a compacted base, with the joints grouted solid.

One number for supply and lay
We quote the stone and the laying together, so the figure you get is the one for the finished job. The material and the shape are what move it, and we'll tell you which before you commit.
Every job goes down on a full mortar bed
Wet lay means every paver is bedded into mortar across its whole underside, over a base we've built and compacted, with the joints grouted solid.
It gives you a surface that behaves as one piece. When the ground moves, and on Perth sand it does, the paving lifts slightly together rather than one paver stepping against the next.
It's slower and it costs more on the day. It's also why we're not back on the same job in three years.
That's the trade we make on every quote we write, and we'd rather explain it up front than have you find out later.
What wet lay actually means

Compacted base, checked for fall
We build and compact the base first and make sure water will drain away from the pool before a single paver goes down.

Full wet mortar bed
Each paver is bedded into wet mortar across its whole underside, so there's nothing to rock and nowhere for water to sit.

Cut to the curve
Coping is cut to follow the shape of the pool, piece by piece, so the joints stay even.

Grouted and finished
Joints are filled solid so sand can't wash out and the surface stays one piece.
Half new work, half relaying
New pool surrounds, coping, alfrescos, courtyards and driveways make up about half the year.
The other half is paving that's sunk or spread: lifted, the base rebuilt and compacted, and laid back down on mortar.
That's why this site talks about the base as much as it talks about the stone. It's the part you can't see, and it's the difference between two paving jobs that look identical on the day.

What we'll say no to
Worth saying up front, so nobody wastes a visit.
- Patch repairs, because the base is usually the real problem
- A material somewhere it won't be comfortable, like dark stone on a west facing pool surround
- An overlay over a slab that's cracked or still moving, because the crack comes back through
- A quote on a job we haven't stood on, because the base is what decides the price
